Erskine trounces Chowan 18 to 5

Box Score Due West, S.C. – Sophomore Samantha Burns (Hilton Head Island, SC, Hilton Head Island High School) tallied 5 goals and 3 assists as Erskine trounced Chowan University 18 to 5 in non-conference women’s lacrosse action at Huggins Field.

In a running theme of the season, Erskine surrendered a quick first goal as Adriea Herndon scored a free position goal just 64 seconds into the game.

The Flying Fleet countered with six unanswered goals and never trailed again.  Kelly Dalziel (Ocean, NJ, Ocean Township High School) got the run started tallying her first goal of the game on a free position attempt.  After surrendering a goal, Erskine recorded four more goals, two by Anna Dailey (Clinton, SC, Clinton High School), to lead at halftime 10 to 2.

Erskine opened the second half with three goals in the first nine minutes of play forcing Chowan to call time out.  Chowan tallied a goal coming out of the timeout but Burns put another one on the board for the Fleet just a minute later.  Erskine added four more goals before yielding two goals late when the outcome was firmly established.

Dalziel contributed 4 goals and assist while both Sarah Tibbits (Marietta, GA, Sprayberry High School) and Von McKenzie (Greenville, SC, Woodmont High School) had three goals each.

Erica Jefferson led Chowan with 2 goals.

Erskine improves to 3-5 on the season while Chowan slips to 1-5.

The Fleet will host conference foe Pfeiffer University tomorrow starting at 1:00 p.m.
