Box Score Due West, S.C. – Erskine lost in four sets (3-1) to Lourdes University tonight in non-conference men’s volleyball action at Belk Arena.
The Fleet blitzed the Gray Wolves in the first set winning 25 to 14. The Fleet had five service aces along with 10 kills.
But the Gray Wolves made a couple of substitutions and lineup changes in the next set and won 25 to 21 to tie the match at 1-1. Erskine’s Mike Kawa knocked down 7 kills of his game-high 19 kills in the set.
With the momentum in hand, Lourdes won the next set 25 to 17 as Erskine struggled offensively. The Fleet had a negative hitting percentage for the set. Mike Michelau had three of the Fleet’s six kills.
The final set required extra points as neither team could command a significant lead in the match. In the end, Lourdes got the lucky bounce as Erskine’s block landed just out of bounds for the game point at 27 to 25.
In addition to his 19 kills, Kawa also had 8 digs and 2 service aces. Michelau also reached double-digits in kills with 13. Michael Schneck had a couple of great diving digs from his libero position. He had a game-high 12 digs on the night.
The Gray Wolves were led by Nick DiMarco’s 15 kills.
Erskine returns to conference play this Thursday when the Bobcats of Lees-McRae visit Belk Arena. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
