Due West, S.C. – Facing their second ranked opponent in a row, the Erskine Flying Fleet (5-7) fell to #8 Lander University (9-1) 9-0 today in non-conference men’s tennis action at the Erskine Tennis Complex.
In doubles play, Erskine’s
Jack West (Belton, SC, Emerald High School) and
Wilson Mathewes (Greenville, SC, USC-Lancaster)almost pulled their second upset of a ranked opponent but lost 9-8 (9-7) to August Iwdal and Adam Jonsson at #1 doubles.
In singles play, the Fleet were swept in straight sets. West almost forced a tie-breaker set at #1 singles but Lander’s Vincent Verpeaux won the next two games to win the set and match.
Erskine returns to conference play this Saturday when they host Queens University at 1:00 p.m.
