Erskine drops two in Quincy Crossover Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Quincy, Ill. – Erskine dropped two games in the Quincy Crossover Tournament last night, losing 3-1 (17-25, 25-17, 18-25, 21-25) to undefeated Park University in game one and falling to the host, Quincy University 3-2 (22-25, 30-28, 21-25, 26-24, 13-15) in the second game.

In the first game, freshmen Mike Kawa (Debica, Poland, Elk Grove High School) and Mike Michelau (Bristol, WI, Westosha Central High School) combined for 29 of the Fleet’s 46 kills.  Kawa finished with a game-high 15 kills along with 3 blocks and 2 digs while Michelau had 14 kills with 5 blocks and 4 digs.  Setter Corey Marks (Southwest Ranches, FL, Archbishop Edward McCarthy High School) had a solid performance with 38 assists, 5 digs and block.

Park University dominated the net recording 13 blocks, led by Zach Penolio with 5 blocks.  He also knocked down a team-high 14 kills on 26 attempts.  Matheus Roham also reached double-digits in kills with 11 while also contributing 4 blocks.

In the Fleet’s nightcap, Erskine pushed the host Quincy University to five sets.  Kawa again led the Fleet with a game-high 18 kills and 5 blocks.  Michelau recorded his third double-double of the season with 16 kills and 11 digs.  He also had 5 blocks.  Freshman Omar Melendez (San Juan, P.R.) had a career-high 16 kills on 31 attempts with just 2 errors.  Michael Schneck (Milwaukee, WI, Marquette University High School) had 24 digs, the second time this season he has recorded over 20 digs in a game.

Quincy had four players reach double-figures in kills, led by Jack Gamache’s 16 kills and 16 digs.  John Pranger knocked down 15 kills while Ian Lawson and Steven Battaglia had 12 and 11 kills respectively.

Erskine plays their last game in the tournament this morning at 11:00 against Lindenwood University.
