Box Score Due West, S.C. – Trailing 8 to 4 at halftime, Erskine staged a second half comeback to win their season opener 11 to 10 over Shorter University in non-conference women’s lacrosse action at Huggins Field.
Sophomore
Samantha Burns (Hilton Head Island, SC, Hilton Head Island High School) capped off the Fleet rally scoring the game-winning goal with less than two minutes remaining while freshman goalkeeper
Konstandena Brown (Wilmington, NC, John T. Hoggard High School) fended off three free position goal attempts to preserve the victory. For the Fleet, the last two minutes was the only time they led in the game.
Burns led all scorers with 6 goals and 1 assist while Brown recorded 5 saves in her first collegiate game. Senior
Von McKenzie (Greenville, SC, Woodmont High School) added two other goals while
Kelly Dalziel (Ocean, NJ, Ocean Township High School),
Anna Dailey (Clinton, SC, Clinton High School), and
Hillary Henry (Columbia,SC, Ridgeview) all had a goal each. Henry also had two assists.
Rachel Skinner led the Hawks with three goals while seven other players scored one goal each. Taylor Moody recorded 9 saves and surrendering 11 goals.
Erskine returns to the field on Wednesday when non-conference foe Young Harris visits Huggins Field. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
