Box Score Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet wasted little shooting down the Falcons of Pfeiffer University, winning 84 to 58 in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball action at Belk Arena late this afternoon. The win snaps a two-game losing skid for the Fleet (13-7, 8-7).
After trading points, Erskine broke a 10-10 tie scoring eleven unanswered points and never trailed again. Freshman
Roderick Perkins (Smyrna, GA, Campbell High School) hit three shots from behind the arc to spark the run.
Pfeiffer trimmed the Erskine lead to just four points late in the opening half on two 3-point baskets sandwiched around a layup by Jerod Wallace. Erskine responded by jumping into a full-court press scoring the half’s last seven points to take a 41 to 29 advantage into the locker room at halftime. Junior
DeShaun Hall (Inman, SC, Landrum High School) swiped the ball and raced the length of the court for the easy layup to end the run.
Erskine’s run extended into the second half scoring the half’s first thirteen points to extend their lead to 54 to 29. Both Perkins and Hall converted back-to-back old fashioned three- point plays to drive the run.
At that point, Head Coach Mark Peeler began using his bench extensively. Junior
Brandon Bjerre (Columbia, MD, Hammond High School) hit three 3-point shots while freshman
Bradley Knotts (West Columbia, SC, Airport High School) hit his lone shot, a three-pointer, as the Fleet maintained their twenty plus lead to the end, winning 84 to 58.
Perkins came off the bench to lead all scorers with 22 points. Hall finished with 16 points and a team-high 6 rebounds while senior
Corey Sorrell (Walton, KY, Northern Kentucky University) added 15 points.
Josh Humphrey led the Falcons with 16 points and a game-high 9 rebounds. Gibson added 12 points and Wallace finished with 10 points.
Erskine faces in-state conference rival North Greenville University on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
