Erskine defeats both King and Emmanuel 3-1

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Bristol, Tenn. – Erskine won a pair of games Saturday, defeating both King University and Emmanuel College by the same score of 3-1 in men’s volleyball action at Kline Gym.

Erskine opened the day against King College winning the match in four sets (25-17, 25-18, 22-25, 28-26) to snap a three game losing skid.  Both Mike Michelau (Bristol, WI, Westosha Central High School) and Mike Kawa (Debica, Poland, Elk Grove High School) had huge game for the Fleet.  Michelau knocked down a season-high 21 kills with 8 digs while Kawa crushed 20 kills with 7 digs and 2 blocks.  Corey Marks (Southwest Ranches, FL, Archbishop Edward McCarthy High School) handed out a season-best 49 assists with 9 digs.  As a team, Erskine had a .351 hitting percentage for the game.

In game two against Emmanuel College, Erskine dropped their first set but rallied to win the next three sets to win the match 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-15, 27-25).  The Fleet used a more diversified attack in game two with four Fleet players reaching double-digits in kills.  Omar Melendez (San Juan, P.R.) led the Fleet with a season-best 16 kills and 2 aces.  Michelau and Kawa both finished with 15 kills whileNeal Stanley (Apopka, FL) had 13 kills.  Corey Marks had another stellar game at his setter position handing out 47 assists.  The Fleet again had an impressive hitting percentage at .398 while limiting Emmanuel to just .214.

Erskine now stands at 7-8 overall and 4-6 in conference, good for 5th place in the 9-team conference standing.  Erskine has 6 remaining conference games with the top six teams qualifying for the conference tournament.

Erskine hosts conference foe Barton College this coming Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
