Box Score Tigerville, S.C. – With tonight’s 82 to 60 win over North Greenville University, Erskine not only clinched a berth in the conference’s post season tournament but also secured their first winning season since moving to the NCAA Division II ranks in 1992.
Erskine wasted little time streaking out to an early eight point lead behind on 3-point baskets by freshman
Roderick Perkins (Smyrna, GA, Campbell High School) and junior
DeShaun Hall (Inman, SC, Landrum High School). Shortly before halftime, Erskine lengthened their lead to double-digits. Hall hit a jumper followed by two free throws to put the Fleet up by thirteen points at 31 to 18. Erskine led 42 to 27 at intermission.
The Fleet opened the second half extending their lead quickly to nineteen points on a short jumper by
Corey Sorrell (Walton, KY, Holy Cross High School) and two free throws from
Mike Gabbard (Erlanger, KY, Boone County High School). NGU never threatened as the Fleet won the game 82 to 60.
Erskine now stands at 14-7 overall and 9-7 in conference.
Both Hall and Sorrell finished with a game-high 18 points while Gabbard added 12 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.
Phillip Brown led the Crusaders, earning a double-double, with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Tyshawn Patterson scored a game-high 18 points. Chris Dean added 15 points.
Erskine looks for their third win in a row this Saturday at conference foe Queens University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
