Box Score Wilson, N.C. – Erskine (6-4, 1-1) snapped a 10-game losing streak at Wilson Gymnasium, aka the Dog House, whipping the Bulldogs of Barton College (4-5, 1-1) 87 to 72 tonight in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action. The last time the Flying Fleet won at Barton was back in 2005.
With the game knotted 44 to 44 at halftime, Erskine used a 13-2 run in the second half to take control of the game. The Fleet connected on three consecutive 3-point shots while using their full-court press to force two Barton turnovers. Sophomore
Roderick Perkins (Smyrna, GA, Campbell High School) hit the first three pointer after a steal by
Maurice Daniels, Jr. (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School) and senior
Jake Haslam (Lithia, FL, Tampa Preparatory School) followed on an assist by
Mike Gabbard (Erlanger, KY, Boone County High School). Daniels concluded the run with his second three-pointer of the game. Erskine maintained a double-digit lead from that point forward, winning 87 to 72.
Perkins bounced back after scoring a season-low 14 points last game to lead all scorers with 26 points and 4 steals. Haslam went 5 for 9 from behind the arc in route to scoring 17 points. Gabbard just missed a double-double scoring 16 points with 9 assists while Daniels contributed 10 points. Since being inserted in the starting lineup this week, Daniels has averaged 10.5 points, 1.5 assists and 1 steal per game.
Barton was led by Chris Flemming's 23 points and 7 rebounds. Teammate Evan Shelton finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds to earn a double-double on the night.
This game concludes the Fleet's pre-Christmas portion of their schedule. The Fleet return to action on January 4
th when local conference foe the Crusaders of North Greenville University visits Belk Arena.
