Fleet fall to King 61-52 in conference opener

Box Score Due West, S.C. – Erskine dropped their conference opener to King University 61 to 52 tonight in men's basketball action at Belk Arena.

Erskine (5-4, 0-1) struggled to find any offensive consistency against the King zone defense.  After taking a one-point lead on a 3-point basket by George Wood (Atlanta, GA, Druid Hills High School), Erskine suffered through a seven minute scoring drought that allowed King (3-4, 1-0) to score ten unanswered points.  Erskine was just 7 of 28 from the floor in the first half, including just 4 of 18 from behind the arc.

In the second half, Erskine shot much better from the floor but failed to mount a serious charge at King.  Erskine lost the game 61 to 52.

Sophomore Roderick Perkins (Smyrna, GA, Campbell High School) led the Fleet with 14 points and 9 rebounds.  Senior Jake Haslam (Lithia, FL, Tampa Preparatory School) had 12 points and 4 assists while freshman Maurice Daniels, Jr. (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School) contributed 11 points in his first collegiate start.

King was led by Logan Lyle's 14 points while teammate Scottie Hendricks had 12 points.

Erskine travels to Wilson, North Carolina, this Saturday to play conference foe Barton College.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
