Co-Conference Champions!

Box Score Due West, S.C. – Erskine's Silvio Braun (Munich, Germany, Adolf Weber Gymnasium) headed back teammate Andrew Settlemire's shot that bounced off the crossbar to give the Flying Fleet (11-5-1, 7-1) a 2-1 overtime victory over conference-leading Limestone College (12-3, 7-1).  With the win, Erskine earned a share of the conference regular season title with Limestone.  It is the first-ever Conference Carolinas Regular Season title for the men's soccer team.

Erskine trailed for most the game as Limestone tallied their goal early in the first half (15th minute).  Erskine goalkeeper Roberto De La Vina (Oviedo, Spain, San Ignacio) made a stellar diving save off Sam Orritt's shot but his deflection rebounded directly to Jack Bailey, who easily finished with the goal open.

With time dwindling and several missed opportunities, Erskine finally scored to tie the game off a corner kick to the delight of the large home crowd.  Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) out jumped his defender to head the ball into the upper far corner off Jonathan Rutter's corner kick.

In the 5th overtime minute, Settlemire made a splendid move on his defender creating a one-on-one with the goalkeeper.  Settlemire's shot banked off the crossbar but Braun charged in from the backside to head the ball back into the open goal to win the game.

The celebrating Erskine team was joined on the pitch by the boisterous home crowd.

Both teams missed on several scoring opportunities partly due to the outstanding play by both goalkeepers.  Both goalkeepers finished with 7 saves on the night while Erskine held a one shot advantage.

But the save of the night goes to Erskine midfielderRoss Henderson (Lincoln, England, William Farr C of E).  In the 68th minute, Limestone's Jorge McKenna split two Erskine defenders forcing De La Vina to leave his line.  McKenna's shot was headed away by a diving Henderson to preserve the 1-0 deficit.

With both Erskine and Limestone finishing with a 7-1 record, the Fleet earn the #1 seed due to tonight's win.

Prior to the game, Erskine recognized their three seniors on the men's soccer, P.C. Henry, Jonathan Rutter, and De La Vina. They are the first graduating class to have a winning record each year since Erskine joined the NCAA Division II back in 1995.

Erskine will face #8 Mt. Olive College on Tuesday starting at 7 p.m.  Mt. Olive defeated King earlier today to earn the final spot in the conference tournament.  Erskine defeated Mt. Olive 4-1 back on October 19th.
