Box Score Due West, S.C. – In the Fleet's season opener, junior
Tara Potter (Charlotte, NC, Bandys High School) scored a career-high 21 points as Erskine lost to archrival Anderson University 78 to 63 tonight in non-conference women's basketball action at Belk Arena.
Potter worked hard for her points, going 6 for 11 from the floor. She picked her remaining 9 points from the line on 14 attempts. Potter also grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds. Freshmen
Kristin Giles (Union, SC, Union County High School) and
Naomi Stuger (Marietta, GA, Kell High School) also reached double-figures. Giles scored 12 points while Stuger came off the bench to knock down 11 points in their first collegiate game.
Anderson had an eleven players score on the night with three players reaching double-digits. Jennifer Moore led the Trojans with 12 points while Lesley Woods and Jasmine Franklin each had 10 points. Alexis Dillard pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
The Fleet were within striking distance until Anderson's Emily Willoughby drilled back-to-back 3 point baskets as the Trojans took a 17 point lead into intermission.
Erskine battled hard in the second half but could not cut significantly into the Trojan lead. Erskine lost by 16 points, 78 to 63.
Erskine will host Bob Jones University this Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
