Concord, N.C. – Running in the Conference Carolinas Championship Meet at Frank Liske Park, junior
Marlee Rhodes (Williamston, SC, Palmetto High School) shattered the school 5k record with a time of 18:42 to finish 4
th overall. As a team, Erskine finished 8
th in the 10 team field.
Rhodes broke the record she had established earlier this season by 36 seconds. With her finish, Rhodes also earned All-Conference honors, the first Fleet female runner to earn All-Conference recognition since Jessica Martin in 2004.
Hannah Witt of King University won the event in a time of 17:40.08, a full thirty seconds ahead of the second place finisher, Lucy Schmitz of Belmont Abbey.
King University won the team competition while Mt. Olive College finished second.
Sophomore
Amelia Chassevent (Fountain Inn, SC, Insights on Education) finished second for the Fleet, completing the course in 20:39, a season best, to finish 27
th overall.
Chelsea Ball (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School) was next to cross the finish line, coming in a time of 22:15 for 49
th place.
The Fleet's next four runners finished together led by senior
Rachel Whitmire (Pendleton, SC, T.L. Hanna High School) in 56
th place, just a second ahead of teammate
Ana Unda (Hendersonville, NC, Hendersonville Christian Academy), while
Abigail Butler (Summerville, SC) and
April Bussey (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School) were 13 and 14 seconds back in 58
th and 59
th place.
Erskine will complete their season in two weeks at the NCAA Southeast Regional Meet to be held at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, North Carolina.
