Box Score Due West, S.C. – Erskine erupted for five first half and cruised to a 5-2 victory over the Wolves of Newberry College tonight in non-conference men's soccer action at Huggins Field.
Erskine dominated from the opening kick-off, tallying their first goal in the 13
th minute when
Silvio Braun (Munich, Germany, Adolf Weber Gymnasium) fed
Victor Nirennold (Rennes, France, Lycee Emile Zola), who finished with a perfectly placed shot into the lower left corner.
The Fleet added three more goals in the next seventeen minutes of play.
Andrew Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) notched his fourth goal of the season after accepting a pass from teammate
Ross Henderson (Lincoln, England, William Farr C of E) at the top of the box. After dribbling down the left side of the box, Settlemire created space from the defender and slipped the ball past the diving goalkeeper on the near post. A few minutes later Henderson scored his third goal of the year after the goalkeeper mishandled the ball and Settlemire added another goal after Newberry misplayed the ensuing kick-off.
Peter Savarese (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) finished the Fleet scoring spree with a goal in the final minute of the opening period.
Bruno Reis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) centered the ball to Savarese at the top of the box, who one-timed the ball into the lower right corner. For Savarese, it was his second goal of the season.
With a 5-0 lead Erskine Head Coach Warren Turner opened the second half with the majority of his starters on the bench. Turner continued to substitute heavily through the half as 31 players appeared in the game.
With the win, Erskine evens their overall record at 4-4-1.
The Fleet will take the weekend off and return to action next Wednesday when the Tornado of King University visit Huggins Field. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
