Box Score Due West, S.C. – Erskine was within four points until a late second half run by King College led to a 63 to 47 loss in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action at Belk Arena.
With under eight minutes left to play, Erskine (0-11, 0-6) turned the ball over on three of their next four possessions that King (6-4, 2-4) exploited for a 9-0 run to take a 54 to 41 lead. King’s Bonnie Durrett capped off the run with an old-fashioned three point play.

Andrienne Bannerman (Watha, NC, Pender High School) led the Fleet with 16 points and 8 rebounds on the night. Senior
Sha'Niqua Whitley (Columbia, SC, Ridge View High School) and freshman
Tori Whittenberg (Mauldin, SC, Mauldin High School) both finished with 11 points each while junior
Jana Dixon (Conyers, GA, Heritage High School) snagged a game-high 12 rebounds.
King got a “double-double” from Durrett who finished with a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds. She also had 3 blocks on the defensive end. Chelsea Bowling and Brooke Johnson added 12 and 10 points respectively.
The game began well for the Fleet, scoring the game’s first five points on a short turn-around jumper in the lane by Dixon followed by a 3-point basket by Whittenberg. But, the opening period remained close, featuring 5 ties and 3 lead changes, as neither team led by more than five points. King took a two point lead into intermission as Brooke Johnson sank a 3-point shot with nine seconds remaining.
In the second half, Erskine stayed close, never trailing by more than nine points, until the discouraging last eight minutes.
Erskine hosts conference foe Belmont Abbey this Saturday. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
