Box Score Gaffney, S.C. – Erskine (3-3, 1-3) lost on the road tonight to in-state conference rival Limestone College 3-0 in men’s volleyball action at the Timkin Center.
In the first set, Limestone (4-1, 4-1) leaped out to an 8-1 lead aided by three Fleet attack errors and two kills by Eric Zaun. Erskine twice got back to within three points but Limestone stiffed their defense at net blocking two Fleet attacks and forcing two Fleet errors to put together an eight point run. Limestone won the first set 25-18.
Limestone used a 7-2 run to close out the second set. Kevin Hart ignited the run with a kill and won the set with another one for two of his three kills in the set. Limestone won the second set 25 to 19.
After falling behind by seven points, Erskine rallied to get within a point at 24 to 23 on a kill by
Mike Michelau (Bristol, WI, Westosha Central High School). But on the ensuing rally, Limestone’s Scott Warren and Sean Davis blocked the Fleet attack to win the third and final set 25 to 23.
Michelau and
Corey Marks (Southwest Ranches, FL, Archbishop Edward McCarthy High School) led the Fleet with 9 kills each.
Mike Kawa (Debica, Poland, Elk Grove High School) had 8 kills along with 5 digs and 4 blocks.
Zaun led the Saints with a game-high 11 kills, 3 digs and 2 blocks.
Erskine travels to Lakeland, Florida, this weekend to play Warner University in two games.
