Box Score Due West, S.C. – Junior DeShaun Hall posted a season-high 18 points and a career-high 14 rebounds to lead the Erskine Flying Fleet past the Trojans of Mount Olive College 74 to 67 this afternoon in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball action at Belk Arena.

With the win, Erskine (9-4, 5-4) snaps a two game losing skid while halting Mount Olive’s five game winning streak.  The last time the Trojans (6-8, 3-5) had lost was to the same Fleet team back on December 1st on their home court.  Erskine won that game 77 to 65 behind Hall’s first double-double of the season of 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Trojans closed out the opening period with a 15-7 run that up to that point had featured seven lead changes and six ties.  Kendall Hargrove led the Trojan charge scoring six of his fourteen first-half points.

Midway through the second half, Erskine scored 8 unanswered points to tie the game at 51 to 51.  Junior Mike Gabbard capped the spurt with a penetrating drive that he turned into an old-fashion 3-point play.  Three minutes later junior Jake Haslam drilled a 3-point shot from the corner to give Erskine their first lead of the game since the midpoint of the opening period.  After the Trojans pulled back to within one, senior Corey Sorrell hit his only 3-point shot of the game as the Fleet pulled away at the end for the 74 to 67 victory.

Sorrell led all scorers with 23 points to go along with 7 rebounds, 3 assists, a block and steal.  Freshman Roderick Perkins contributed 13 points off bench while Haslam finished with 11 points.

In a matchup of the conference’s top two assist leaders, Erskine’s Mike Gabbard won the battle over Dory Hines 7 to 3 in assists.  Hines also finished with 4 turnovers to Gabbard’s three.

None of the Mount Olive starters reached double-figures in scoring.  The Trojans’ were led by Hargrove’s 14 points, all in the first half, and team-high 9 rebounds.  Teammate Darrell Patterson contributed 13 points.  Both Hargrove and Patterson came off the bench for the Trojans.

Erskine plays host to in-state conference rival North Greenville University this Monday.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
