Erskine suffers 91 to 51 road loss to Limestone

Box Score Gaffney, S.C. – The Erskine women’s basketball team suffered a tough road loss, 91 to 51, to in-state conference rival Limestone College tonight at the Timkin Center.

Limestone (10-2, 7-1) led from the opening tip, scoring the game’s first ten points.  Erskine’s Rosa Powell made a nice pass to Jana Dixon in the paint for a layup for the Fleet’s first points.

Before the close of the half, sophomore Andrienne Bannerman led the Fleet on a short run scoring five consecutive points.  Fellow sophomore Tara Potter finished the run, converting on two free throws.  Limestone led 41 to 20 at intermission.

Limestone continued to control the game tempo through the second period, forcing the Fleet into 28 turnovers on the night.

Bannerman earned her second “double-double” of the season, scoring a co-game-high 28 points while grabbing a game-high 10 boards to lead the Flying Fleet.  Junior Jana Dixon came off the bench to contribute 13 points and 6 rebounds.

Limestone had five players finish in double-figures, led by Maria Young’s 18 points.  Stephanie Hayes contributed 15 points along with 8 assists and Tia Williams added 14 points.  Both Bridget Ansbro and Morgan Brown came off the bench to contribute 10 points.

Erskine returns home this Saturday to host the Trojans of Mount Olive College.  Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
