Erskine ice-cold in road loss to Limestone

Box Score Gaffney, S.C. – Driving through the cold rain today affected the Flying Fleet’s shooting touch as Erskine (8-4, 4-4) shot a season low 31.3% from the floor, including a dismal 6 of 27 from 3-point range, in an 82 to 53 road loss to conference co-leader Limestone College (11-3, 7-1) tonight in men’s basketball action at the Timkin Center.

After Erskine’s Corey Sorrell (Walton, KY, Holy Cross High School) scored the game’s first basket, Limestone countered with back-to-back 3-point baskets and never trailed again.  Erskine got back within a point following a 3-point shot by junior DeShaun Hall (Inman, SC, Landrum High School) but Limestone rattled off 14 unanswered points over the next five minutes as Erskine continued to misfire.  Limestone took a 38 to 21 lead into the locker room at halftime.  For the half, Erskine was just 7 of 31 from the floor while Limestone made 15 of 37 shots.

Unfortunately the Fleet could not find their shooting touch during halftime and missed four of their first five shots to start the second period allowing Limestone to extend their lead to 28 points.  Erskine never threatened as Limestone breezed to the 82 to 53 victory.

Hall was the only Fleet player to reach double-figures scoring a team-high 12 points along with a team-high 5 rebounds.

The Saints had four players finish in double-digits, led by Mike Barrett’s 25 points.  Both Charles Blue and Joe Raga earned double-doubles on the night.  Blue had 10 points and 11 rebounds while Raga scored 11 points along with a game-high 15 rebounds.  P.J. Foster also had 10 points.

Limestone also dominated the boards to a 62 to 30 advantage.  On a positive note, Erskine committed a season-low 4 turnovers.

Erskine hosts conference foe Mount Olive College this Saturday.  Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
