Erskine hammers LMC 17-7

Box Score Due West, SC – Erskine won by the largest margin in the program’s history, hammering Lees-McRae College 17-7 in Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse action at Huggins Field late this afternoon.  With the win, Erskine improves to 3-8 overall and 2-2 in conference.  The Bobcats of Lees-McRae College are now 1-8 overall and 0-4 in conference.

Erskine scored three goals in the first three minutes of play and increased their lead to 10-0 by halftime.  Senior Alesia Jerrells (Blythewood, SC, Blythewood High School) netted the Fleet’s first two goals, scoring on an isolation play in the first minute followed by a one-timer on a nice pass from freshman Samantha Burns (Hilton Head Island, SC, Hilton Head Island High School).  Following a LMC turnover, Burns found junior Von McKenzie (Greenville, SC, Woodmont High School)vin front of the goal for the Fleet’s third goal in three minutes.  Erskine scored seven more goals in the half to take a commanding 10-0 lead at halftime.

The two teams played even in the second half as Erskine won 17-7.  It is the largest margin of victory by Erskine in the program’s four year history.

Jerrells led the Fleet with 5 goals and two assists while Burns contributed 4 goals and 3 assists.  Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Overley (Clayton, NC, Blythewood High School) had six saves on 13 shots on goal.

For the Bobcats, Olivia Gudewich had three goals and Kaitlyn Rooney had two goals and one assist.  Goalkeeper Jessica Travers had 9 saves on 26 shots on goal.

Erskine hosts non-conference opponent Catawba College on Wednesday.  Game time has been moved up to 6:00 p.m.
