Box Score Newberry, S.C. – Coach Bob Dachille’s club won a record fifth game today defeating in-state rival Newberry College 18-4 in non-conference women’s lacrosse action at Setzler Field. Erskine concludes their season at 5-10 overall and 2-4 in conference.
The Fleet opened the game scoring the first seven goals in the first nine minutes of play. Freshman
Samantha Burns (Hilton Head Island, SC, Hilton Head Island High School), who set a new single-season scoring record with 45, scored three goals in the Fleet run, including two goals within the first two minutes of play. Junior
Anna Dailey (Clinton, SC, Clinton High School) added two goals while
Alesia Jerrells (Blythewood, SC, Blythewood High School) and
Von McKenzie (Greenville, SC, Woodmont High School) added one a piece.
Following three goals by the Wolves, Erskine closed the opening period with five unanswered goals to take a 13-3 lead into the locker room.
Content to sit on their large lead, Erskine slowed the play in the second half outscoring Newberry 5-1.
Burns finished with a game-high 4 goals and 1 assist while Dailey had 3 goals. Jerrells added 2 goals along with one assist. Jerrells departs from Erskine as the all-time leading scorer and assists leader. She holds the single-season record for assists with 19.
