Tigerville, S.C. – North Greenville University topped Erskine 6-3 on Thursday afternoon in Conference Carolinas men’s tennis action at the Greer Tennis Club. Erskine drops to 4-15 overall and 2-6 in conference while the Crusaders of North Greenville University improve to 4-8 overall and 3-6 in conference.
In the doubles competition, the Crusaders won the decisive second point at #3 doubles to claim a 2-1 advantage heading into the six singles matches.
Jack West (Belton, SC, Emerald High School) and
Connor Roy (Greenville, SC, Travelers Rest High School) won 8-6 at # 2 doubles but
James Hoatson (Harding, South Africa, Maritzburg High School) and
Matthew Twitty (West Columbia, SC, Brookland-Cayce High School) came up short losing 9-7 at #3 doubles.
Angelo Ciarrocchi (Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Theodor Herzl High School) and
Vincent Chauvette (Levis, Quebec, Canada, Ecole Pointe-Levy) lost at #1 doubles 8-4.
Trailing 2-1, Erskine needed to win four of the six singles matches to win the team match. West and Hoatson both won in straight sets at #3 and #4 singles for two points. Both Roy and Twitty forced a third set but could not prevail losing both matches and the overall match 6-3.
Erskine travels to Queens University on Saturday.
