Hartsville, S.C. – Erskine College lost on the road to in-state conference foe Coker College 8-1 in men’s tennis action at the Coker Tennis Courts. With the loss, the Flying Fleet drop to 4-14 overall and 2-5 in conference. For the Cobras, they improve to 7-11 overall and 5-4 in conference.
Freshman
Connor Roy (Greenville, SC, Travelers Rest High School) won the Fleet’s lone point in his #5 singles position. Roy defeated Ricardo Perez in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
Erskine lost to two close double matches and trailed 3-0 entering the six singles matches. Seniors
Angelo Ciarrocchi (Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Theodor Herzl High School) and
Vincent Chauvette (Levis, Quebec, Canada, Ecole Pointe-Levy) lost 8-6 at #1 doubles while
Jack West (Belton, SC, Emerald High School) and Connor Roy fell 8-5 at #2 doubles.
At #1 singles, Ciarrocchi won his first set in the tie-breaker 7-6 (7-3) but dropped the next set 6-1 and a tight tie-breaking set 10-8. The Fleet lost the other four singles matches in straight sets.
Erskine travels to Tigerville, South Carolina, today to play new Conference Carolinas member North Greenville University at 3:00 p.m.
