Gaffney, SC – Erskine’s
Jack West (Belton, SC, Emerald High School) won the Flying Fleet’s lone point yesterday against conference-leading Limestone College as the Fleet fell 8-1 in Conference Carolinas men’s tennis action at Emmie Evans Tennis Center.
Erskine drops to 4-11 overall and 2-3 in conference while Limestone remains undefeated in conference at 3-0 and is now 8-5 overall.
The match did not start well for the Flying Fleet as the Saints won all three doubles matches.
In singles play, West edged Rafael Ferla in the first set 6-4 and quickly put him away to win the match 6-2 in the second set. At #2 singles, senior
Vincent Chauvette (Levis, Quebec, Canada, Ecole Pointe-Levy) bounced back to win his second set 6-3 after narrowly losing his first set 6-4. Unfortunately, Chauvette lost the tie-breaker set 10-7. In #4 singles,
James Hoatson (Harding, South Africa, Maritzburg High School) was leading 3-2 in the second set when he was forced to retire due to injury. Limestone won the other three singles matches in straight sets.
Erskine returns to the court this Saturday against in-state conference foe Coker College. The match is set to start at 2:00 p.m.
