Box Score Due West, SC – The Erskine Flying Fleet snapped a three-game losing skid by routing the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College tonight 85-68 in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action at Belk Arena. With the victory, Erskine evens their conference record at 7-7 and improves to 10-12 overall. The Bobcats slip to 6-13 overall and 2-8 in conference.
The Fleet had five players finish in double-figures led by senior Porsha Morgan’s game-high 21 points and 7 assists. Fellow senior
Elizabeth Tatum (Glennville, GA, Pinewood Christian Academy) recorded a “double-double” with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore
Lindsey Weidenaar (Evans, GA, Lakeside High School) hit five 3-point shots to finish with 15 points and junior
Sha'Niqua Whitley (Columbia, SC, Ridge View High School) and freshman
Tara Potter (Sherrills Ford, NC, Bandys High School) both had 11 points each.
For the Bobcats, Paige Whitaker had 17 points and Chloe Parker was perfect on the day with 16 points on 6 of 6 shooting from the field and 4 for 4 from the charity stripe. Icey Patterson and DeAnna Waters had 10 points each. Waters also had a team-high 5 rebounds.
Erskine got off to a slow start offensively tonight turning the ball over twice and missing three shots in their first five possessions. Fortunately the Fleet only trailed 5-0 after the first two and half minutes of play.
Morgan (Columbus, GA, LaGrange Academy) hit her first 3-point shot to tie the game at 8-8. With the game tied at 19-19 midway through the opening period, Erskine took control using a 17-0 run. Weidenaar drilled three of her five 3-point baskets in the run. Lees-McRae closed the half on a 16-7 run to trim the Erskine lead to 8 points at 43-35.
Similar to the start of the game, Erskine had difficulty scoring in the early portion of the second half. Leading by six, Erskine scored 13 points over four minutes of play to push their lead back to double-digits at 69-53. Morgan scored 8 of the Fleet’s 13 points on two 3-point baskets and a layup during the run. Erskine extended their lead to over twenty points three times before finishing with the seventeen point victory at 85-68.
The Falcons of Pfeiffer University visit Belk Arena this Saturday. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
