Box Score Anderson, S.C. – The young Erskine team learned tonight how hard it is to win on the road as archrival Anderson University downed the Fleet 80-42 in non-conference women’s basketball action at the Abney Center.
Sophomore
Andrienne Bannerman (Watha, NC, Pender High School) recorded her first double-double of the young season leading the Fleet with a team-high 13 points and a game-high 11 boards. Sophomore
Tara Potter (Sherrills Ford, NC, Bandys High School) also had a strong game finishing with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Freshman
Tori Whittenberg (Mauldin, SC, Mauldin High School) also reached double figures with 12 points.
The Trojans were led by Alissa Diaz’s 15 points while Breonda Shannon added 13 points and pulled down a team-high 9 rebounds.
After a jumper by Bannerman trimmed the Trojan lead to five points, the Trojans forced the Fleet to turn the ball over on four of their next five possessions resulting in a 12-0 Trojan run to end the half at 34-17.
The Trojans continued to apply their defensive pressure in the second half slowly lengthening their lead to win 80-48.
Erskine will open conference play on the road this Saturday against Belmont Abbey College. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
