Erskine crushes King 3-0 for third consecutive win

Box Score Due West, S.C. – Erskine won their third conference game in a row, crushing King College 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-23) in women’s volleyball action at Belk Arena.  Erskine now stands at 14-10 overall and 13-2 in conference.

Erskine dominated the first set jumping out to an early 8-3 lead.  Erskine lengthened their lead to 16-8, highlighted by a service ace freshman Kelly Sullivan (Wellington, FL, Wellington Community High School) and a kill by sophomore Caitlin Bullock (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) (Wellington, FL, Wellington Community High School).   Erskine closed out the set on an 8-2 run.  Bullock had 6 kills in the set to lead the Fleet.

In the second set, the Fleet grabbed an early 8-3 lead on three kills by senior Alicia Bragg (Rock Hill, SC, Rock Hill High School).  Bragg had five kills to lead the Fleet in the set.  King College rallied to close within two points on kills by Summer Kremer and Kelsey Griffitts.  The Fleet tightened their defense surrendering only two more points to win the set 25-17.  Sophomore Megan Johnson (Little River, SC, North Myrtle Beach High School) had an impressive 11 digs in the set.

Neither team could earn more than a two point advantage until Payton Tipton served back-to-back aces to put King up 20-17 forcing Erskine Head Coach Heather Vahjen to call timeout.  Erskine rallied out of the timeout scoring three straight points on kills by Bragg and Bullock.  After swapping three points each, Erskine earned game point on another King attack error.  Senior Lauren Stewart (Hartwell, GA, Hart County High School) put the game away to give the Fleet the 3-0 victory.

Bullock had a game-high 13 kills while Stewart added 10 kills along with 9 digs and 3 blocks.  Johnson finished with a team-high 19 digs.

King College was led by Summer Kremer’s 7 kills while Tipton had a game-high 21 digs.

Erskine has two games remaining in their regular season.  Erskine steps out of conference on Tuesday to host local rival Newberry College.  Game is set for 7:00 p.m.
