Box Score Due West, S.C. – In front of a Homecoming crowd, Erskine Flying Fleet completed their regular season pounding the Royals of Queens University 4-1 in Conference Carolinas men’s soccer action at Huggins Field.
With the victory, Erskine finished in 3
rd place at 7-2-1 and 8-6-3 overall just a game behind Coker and Limestone who finished tied for first at 8-1-1.

It was fitting that on Senior Day, senior
Jay Lang (Myrtle Beach, SC, Myrtle Beach Christian) scored the Fleet’s first goal. In the 22
nd minute, Lang headed a corner kick from teammate
Jonathan Rutter (Birmingham, England, Fairfax) over the Royals goalkeeper John Rush. It was Lang’s fifth goal of the season.
The Fleet added what would be the game-winning goal six minutes later as freshman
Ross Henderson (Lincoln, England)connected with sophomore
Trevor Moreland (Columbia, SC, A.C. Flora High School) who placed the ball into the lower left corner just out of the reach of Rush.
Without a doubt the Royals had the most impressive goal of the afternoon in the 33
rd minute. Yannick Fischbach lined the ball across the middle just behind teammate Erik Saurez. Saurez spun and performed a bicycle-kick rocketing the ball just inside the far post giving Erskine goalkeeper
Roberto De La Vina (Oviedo, Spain, San Ignacio) no opportunity to defend the shot.
Erskine entered the locker room at halftime with a 2-1 lead.
Henderson scored two insurance goals to give the Flying Fleet the 4-1 win. In the second minute of the second half, De La Vina launched a punt over the Royals defense. Henderson sprinted past the defender beating Rush to the ball and chipping it over his head for his third goal of the season. It was the second assist this season for De La Vina.
Later Henderson scored his second goal on his own assist. Henderson centered the ball that the Royals goalkeeper punched out coming directly back to Henderson who blasted the ball back into the open goal.
Prior to the game, Erskine honored their three graduating seniors:
Jack Kimber (Manchester, England, Priestnall High School),
Jay Lang (Myrtle Beach, SC, Myrtle Beach Christian), and
Eric Moxley (Clemson, SC, Walhalla High School). Kimber is a 4-year team captain and a 3-time all-conference player. Lang is second on the team in goals this season after backing up Roberto De La Vina the last two years at goalkeeper. Moxley, who was expected to start up front, was sidelined this season due to a knee injury.
