As one would expect in a game that featured eleven ties and sixteen lead changes, the outcome was not determined until the final minute of play. With Coker leading by two points at 78-76, Erskine’s
Rosa Powell (Lilburn, GA, Brookwood High School) made one of two free throws to draw within a point with 1:04 remaining. Coker missed two shots on their ensuing possession, giving Erskine an opportunity to gain the lead.
After getting her own rebound off a missed jumper, Morgan penetrated the lane and found Dixon alone under the basket for the easy layup to give Erskine a one point advantage with 26 seconds left. Despite recovering their own miss, Coker failed to score on their next possession and was forced to foul Dixon. Dixon made one of two free throws and the Cobras last second desperation heave was wide of the mark. Erskine won 80-78.
The largest lead by both teams was eight points.
Erskine shot a season-high 44% from the floor, including 31.6% from long-range, in route to their most points this season.
