NGU's late run puts Fleet away 74-64

Box Score Due West, SC – North Greenville University scored five points in the last minute to hold off the Erskine Flying Fleet  74 to 64 in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action at Belk Arena tonight.

Erskine point guard Porsha Morgan (Columbus, GA, LaGrange Academy) drilled a 3-point basket with just over a minute left to play to cut the Crusader lead to five points at 69-64.  Morgan had a season-high 28 points along with 5 assists to lead all scorers.  But on the ensuing possession, NGU’s Christina Carlis converted an old fashion three-point play and Krisceda Cotton hit two free throws with 30 seconds left to ice the game at 74-64.

The Crusaders used a balanced attack with four players finishing in double figures.  Alisha Hope finished with a team-high 18 points while Carlis and Karly Stache contributed 15 points each.  Cotton had 13 points along with 8 rebounds.  Carlis led the Crusaders on the boards with 9 reboards.

Erskine post player Jana Dixon (Conyers, GA, Heritage High School) tied a career-high with 18 rebounds and also had 9 points.

Neither team displayed much offense to start the game.  After ten minutes of play, North Greenville led by two points at 8 to 6 after Erin Gray converted on one of two free throws.  The pace of the game picked up at that point with NGU using an 8-0 run late in the opening frame to take a 27 to 23 advantage into the half.

The Fleet struggled from long range tonight converting on just one of fifteen shots from three-point range, leading to just a 29% shooting percentage on the night.  NGU shot a solid 44% from the floor.

Erskine concludes their three-game home stand this Saturday against the Cobras of Coker College.  Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
