Box Score Due West, SC – Erskine opened a two-game home stand with a crushing 87 to 59 victory over the Yellow Jackets of Allen University today in non-conference men’s basketball action at Belk Arena.  Twelve Erskine players scored in the contest as the Fleet won their fourth game of the season.

The visitors took an early five point lead only to see the Fleet rebound to assume the lead for good midway through the opening half.  Sophomore DeShaun Hall (Inman, SC, Landrum High School) drilled a pull-up jumper off a steal by senior Filip Pejovic (Prijepolje, Serbia, Prijepoljska Gimnazija) to give Erskine the lead permanently at 14 to12.  The Fleet methodically stretched their lead over the reminder of the half as junior Corey Sorrell (Walton, KY, Holy Cross High School)nailed a 3-point shot from the corner as time expired to give Erskine their largest lead of the half entering the locker room at 35 to 22.

After Allen’s Jeremy Crawford opened the second half with a traditional three-point play, Erskine rattled off nine consecutive points, highlighted by Casey Sorrell’s back-to-back penetrating layups, to grow their lead to nineteen at 44 to 25.  Later in the half, Hall finished an impressive Fleet run with a dunk over an Allen defender immediately followed by a behind the back pass to sophomore Adison Lawrence (Greer, SC, Eastside High School) who finished the fast break with a reserve layup.

Leading the Erskine assault was Corey Sorrell with 16 points and 8 rebounds.  Sophomore Casey Sorrell (Walton, KY, Simon Kenton High School) added 13 points while Hall finished with 13 points off the bench along with 8 boards.  Sophomore point guard Mike Gabbard (Erlanger, KY, Boone County High School) had another superb performance from his point guard position handing out 7 assists with zero turnovers while scoring 5 points with 4 steals.
