Two quick goals by NGU ruin Fleet's night

Tigerville, SC – North Greenville University scored two goals in less than minute to beat Erskine 2-1 in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer action at Pepsi Soccer Stadium.  With the loss, Erskine falls to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in conference.  On the flip side, NGU improves to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in conference.

Despite being outshot 12-5 in the first half, Erskine took a scoreless tie into the locker room at halftime. 

Erskine played much better in the second half, creating more scoring opportunities but one crucial minute ruined the Fleet’s night.  In the 70th minute, NGU broke the scoreless tie on a goal by Noelle Beasley.  It was her second goal of the year.  Just forty-five seconds later, NGU’s Rebecca Stidham put an insurance goal on the board for the Crusaders that turned out to be the game-winner.

In the 84th minute, Erskine created some excitement when midfielder Erin Gray (West Columbia, SC, Airport High School)netted her first goal of the season to bring the Fleet within one.   NGU held the Fleet scoreless for the final six minutes for the victory.

For the game, NGU outshot Erskine 23-16.  Katie Lyle (Duluth, GA, Peachtree Ridge High School) started in goal for the Fleet earning 7 saves.

Erskine hosts Converse College this Saturday.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
