Clinton, SC – The Erskine Men’s Soccer Team stunned division I opponent Presbyterian College 3-1 Saturday evening in non-conference men’s soccer action at Martin Stadium. With the victory, the Fleet climbs to 2-1-1 on the season while the Blue Hose remain winless at 0-4.
Erskine scored the first goal of the game in the 16th minute. Senior Cade Weatherly (Lexington, SC, Lexington High School) crossed the ball to freshman Dylan Goodale (Vienna, VA, George C. Marshall High School)on the far post, who placed the ball squarely into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
Presbyterian quickly countered, scoring three minutes later. Luke Ade scored on a cross from Ignacio Monchetti for his first goal of the year, tying the game at 1-1.
Later in the half, Erskine’s Luke Boyce (Lincoln, England) missed a penalty kick as PC goalkeeper Tanner Osborne was able to tip it over the net.
The Fleet put the game away in the second half by scoring two goals, the first one just eight minutes into the half. Freshman Andrew Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) headed the ball into the left side off a pass from fellow freshman Peter Savarese (Hilton Head, SC, Hilton Head Christian Academy). Junior Jack Kimber (Manchester, England, Priestnall High School) nailed home a penalty kick late in the half to seal the Fleet victory at 3-1.
Erskine outshot Presbyterian 26 to 20 on the night although the Blue Hose held a significant advantage on corner kicks at 7-2.
Erskine goalkeeper Roberto De La Vina (Oviedo, Spain, San Ignacio)finished 6 saves while two PC goalkeepers had 11 saves.
The Fleet host conference rival Coker College on Wednesday. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
