Erskine Lacrosse loses to Queens 19-7

Charlotte, NC – In miserable playing conditions, Erskine Lacrosse lost to Queens University 19 to 7 in Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse action at the Queens Sports Complex.  Erskine drops to 1-9 overall and 1-2 in conference while Queens improves to 6-5 overall and 3-0 in conference.

The game remained close until midway through the first half.  Queens University opened the game by scoring three goals in the first five minutes to take an early 3-0 lead.  With 23:49 left, Savannah Nunn (Sacremento, CA, Rocklin High School) set up Lauren Burdick (Greenville, SC, Riverside High School) who blasted the ball past the Queens goalkeeper for Erskine’s first goal.  The Fleet pulled within one at 3-2 with 16:49 remaining on a goal by Denisa Zani.  Queens University scored seven unanswered goals to close out the half and take a 10-2 lead into half.

Erskine played much better in the second half but could not cut into the Royals lead.  Erskine scored first in the second half on a goal by Alesia Jerrells (Columbia, SC, Blythewood).  Queens scored three more goals to extend their lead to 13-3 when Jerrells scored her second goal of the game with 15:50 left.  Jerrells scored her final goal of the game six minutes later to make the score 16-5.  The two teams exchanged two goals each and Queens scored on last goal with 16 seconds remaining to win the game 19-7.

Led by Jerrells’ 3 goals, the Fleet also got two goals and two assists from Burdick.

Queens University had three players score 4 goals each in Brittany Philip, Arika Zimmerman, and Amanda Martin.  Shannon Casey had a game-high 6 assists along with 1 goal.

Erskine hosts Pfeiffer University on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
