Due West, SC – The Erskine men’s tennis team defeated Cedarville University 8-1 in non-conference men’s tennis action at the Erskine College Tennis Complex. The Fleet snapped an eight game losing streak to improve to 2-8 on the season. Cedarville dropped their third match in a row falling to 1-4.
Erskine jumped out to a three point advantage by winning the three doubles matches. Erskine’s Christian Ranguelov (Vienna, Austria, Gen. Vladmir Stoychev) and Fabio Ciarrocchi (Germiston, South Africa) outlasted Aaron Niemiec and Quinton Paul of Cedarville University 8 to 5. Angelo Ciarrocchi (Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Theodor Herzl High School) and Vincent Chauvette (Levis, Quebec, Canada, Ecole Pointe-Levy) won at #2 doubles 8 to 4. Jack West (Belton, SC, Emerald High School) and James Hoatson (Harding, South Africa, Maritzbourg High School) pounded Kyle Kirby and Mike Clark in #3 doubles 8 to 1.
Erskine won five of the six singles matches. Fabio Ciarrocchi, Jack West, Vincent Chauvette and James Hoatson all won in straight sets. Angelo Ciarrocchi won the tie-breaker against Aaron Niemiec to win at #1 singles 6-1, 4-6, and 1-0 (10-7). Christian Rangelov lost his match 6-1 and 6-3.
Erskine hosts Queens University this Saturday starting at 3:00 p.m.
