Erskine falls to Coker 61-45

The Erskine men’s basketball lost to Coker College 61-45 in Conference Carolinas play Tuesday night at Belk Arena.

The pregame Senior Night festivities continued into regulation as senior John Mark Taylor (Budapest, Hungary, Szent Istvan Gimnazium) hit a 3-point basket to put the first points on the board. Taylor was joined in the starting five by his fellow members of the class of
2011: Kevan Shepps (Boiling Springs, SC, Boiling Springs High School)Nick Riley (Stone Mountain, GA, Lakeside High School)Wale Toyo (Charlotte, NC, Providence Day School), and Greg Roberts (Alpharetta, GA, Milton High School). Four of the five senior starters scored in their final game in Due West.

 

Freshman Travis Liner (Charlotte, NC, Northside Christian Academy) led the Fleet in scoring with 11 points.  Junior Filip Pejovic (Prijepolje, Serbia, Prijepoljska Gimnazija) added 10 points along with 8 rebounds. Coker’s Delonte Doles led all scorers with 15.

 

The Flying Fleet hung tough through the second half but its chances of victory were doomed by a 19-2 run by the Cobras midway through the period. 

To the delight of the crowd, Erskine’s seniors returned to the game and finished their last home game on the court at Belk Arena.

 

Erskine next plays at Pfeiffer Saturday afternoon in their season finale.
