Spartanburg, SC – Erskine Lacrosse recorded their first victory by defeating Converse College 19 to 16 in Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse action. With the victory, Erskine evens their record at 1-1 overall and 1-1 in conference. Converse drops to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference.
Erskine took an early 2-0 lead on goals by junior Alesia Jerrells (Columbia, SC, Blythewood) and freshman Savannah Nunn (Sacremento, CA, Rocklin High School). The Fleet lengthened their lead to 7-3 with 7:27 remaining in the first half on goals by Hillary Henry (Columbia,SC, Ridgeview) and Sarah Tibbits (Marietta, GA, Sprayberry) and two goals by Nunn. Converse scored five goals in the next six minutes to take their first lead of the game at 8-7. With 15 seconds remaining in the half, Erskine’s McKenzie (Greenville, SC, Woodmont) scored her first goal of the season to tie the game at 8-8.
The two teams opened the second half by swapping three goals each. Jerrells broke the 11-11 tie by scoring two consecutive goals, one on an assist from Nunn, and Erskine never trailed from that point. Erskine won 19-16.
Alesia Jerrells led the Fleet with a game-high 6 goals and 1 assist and Savannah Nunn added 5 goals along with 3 assists. Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Overley (Columbia, SC, Blythewood) had 21 saves on 37 shots.
Page Fortuna scored 4 goals and had 3 assists to lead Converse offensively.
The Fleet host Gannon University this Saturday. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
