Gaffney, SC – Erskine lost on the road to Limestone College 61 to 46 in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball action at the Timkin Center. Limestone climbs to 19-5 overall and 13-3 in conference while the Fleet drop to 3-21 overall and 1-15 in conference.
Erskine opened the game hitting back-to-back 3-point baskets by Filip Pejovic (Prijepolje, Serbia, Prijepoljska Gimnazija) and Travis Liner (Charlotte, NC, Northside Christian Academy) and forced the Limestone head coach to use a timeout just a minute and half into the game. The game remained close until Limestone’s Ashton Ford drilled a three-point shot to start an 11-0 run giving the Saints a 23-12 lead. Limestone took a ten-point into the half at 30-20.
Limestone kept a double-digit for the majority of the second half. The Fleet cut the lead to nine early in the second half on another Pejovic 3-point basket. On four separate occasions, the Fleet cut the lead to 10 points but could not draw any closer. Limestone won the game 61-46.
Freshman DeShaun Hall (Inman, SC, Landrum High School) led the Fleet with 15 points while both Pejovic and Casey Sorrell (Walton, KY, Simon Kenton High School) scored 8 points each.
Jarrell Douglass led the Saints with a famed “double-double” scoring a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds. Ashton Ford and Michael Barrett both added 12 points and Danny Friend contributed 10 points.
Limestone held a commanding advantage on the boards out-rebounding the young Fleet team 32-18.
Erskine has two games remaining on the season. The Fleet host Coker College this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The Fleet’s last game is on the road at Pfeiffer University this Saturday. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
