Due West, SC – Erskine lost to Queens University 61-45 in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball action at Belk Arena. Erskine drops to 3-19 overall and 1-13 in conference while Queens University improves to 17-6 overall and 13-2 in conference.
Both teams struggled offensively in the opening minutes with neither team scoring in the first two minutes of play. Erskine broke the scoreless draught on a 3-point basket by freshman Casey Sorrell (Walton, KY, Simon Kenton High School). Reggie Hopkins scored Queens’ first seven points to give them a 7-6 lead after six minutes of play. Queens slowly built a double-digit lead, holding Erskine to just 25% shooting in the first half, to take a 35-22 lead at halftime. Erskine shot better in the second half but could not cut into Queens’ double-digit lead, losing 61-45.
Queens scored 22 points in the paint as they out-rebounded the Fleet 37-22.
Travis Liner (Charlotte, NC, Northside Christian Academy) had a game-high 18 points to lead the Fleet offensively. Sorrell added 12 points while freshman DeShaun Hall (Inman, SC, Landrum High School) had 10 points, 2 blocks, and a game-high 7 rebounds.
Hopkins was the only Queens player to reach double-digits with 18 points. Brent Evans pulled a team-high 6 rebounds for the Royals.
Erskine concludes their four-game home-stand on Saturday against St. Andrews Presbyterian College. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
