Erskine shows rust, losing to Anderson 88-56

Box Score Due West, SC – Playing just their second game in over two weeks, Erskine had a hard time shaking off the rust, shooting just 26% from the field, as the Flying Fleet fell to archrival Anderson University 88-56 at Belk Arena in non-conference women’s basketball action.

The loss drops the Fleet to 2-3 on the season while the Trojans climb to 5-3 overall.

The game started slowly with both teams repeatedly misfiring.  Anderson finally got on the board at the 18:36 mark on a 3-point basket by Amanda Parris.  Parris, one of four Trojan players to reach double-figures, scored 11 points while handing out 6 assists on the night.   

Three minutes later, Erskine’s Porsha Morgan (Columbus, GA, LaGrange Academy)drilled a jump shot for the Fleet’s first bucket of the night to make the score 8-2.  Morgan was the only Erskine player to reach double-digits finishing with 13 points. 

The Trojans scored the next ten points in the game and eventually extended their lead to 23 points at one point.  Anderson took a 37 to 18 lead into the half.  Erskine shot just 16% from the field in the first half.

The second half was more of the same as Anderson continued to shoot over 50% from the floor.  Anderson finished shooting 51% on the night, including 59% from behind the arc.

Tilde Ahlin and Sierra Simpson both finished with a game-high 16 points.  Alissa Diaz also added 13 points.

Elizabeth Tatum (Glennville, GA, Pinewood Christian Academy)pulled down a team-high 8 rebounds for the Fleet and scored 8 points.

Erskine will take some time off for final exams this week and will play in a tournament at Catawba College on December 16th and 17th before departing for Christmas break.
