Anderson, SC – Using home-court advantage, Anderson University clipped the Flying Fleet 57-54 tonight in non-conference men’s basketball action. With the win, the Trojans improve to 2-1 on the season while Erskine remains winless at 0-3.
Sophomore
Corey Sorrell (Walton, KY, Holy Cross High School) led the Fleet with 14 points while senior
Brandon Quarles (Landrum, SC, Landrum High School) came off the bench to score 13 points and grab a game-high 9 rebounds.
For the Trojans, Nick Trull scored a game-high 15 points.
At halftime, Anderson led by two at 28-26. Erskine tied the game at 26-26 on a three-point basket by senior
Filip Pejovic (Prijepolje, Serbia, Prijepoljska Gimnazija) with 1:43 remaining. Following a timeout, Anderson’s C.J. Cleaton put the Trojans up by two on two free throws. Neither team scored in the final minute of the half.
Anderson got by ten points at 50-40 midway through the second half only to see Erskine climb back to within two points on a made free throw by sophomore
Mike Gabbard (Erlanger, KY, Boone County High School) with 31 seconds left. After an Anderson free throw, Quarles missed a 3-point shot to tie the game with 14 seconds remaining.
After playing their first three games on the road, Erskine plays at home this Saturday against Atlanta Christian College at 3:30 p.m.
