Lady Fleet Fall to Barton 88-79

Due West, SC –The Barton Bulldogs used a 16-2 run to begin the second half to erase a 12 point Fleet lead and used a smothering defense to hold off Erskine 88-79 in Conference Carolinas women’s basket ball action Saturday night.

The game started off as a battle with five lead changes in the first five minutes of the game, Erskine would take the lead 18-13 at the 14:42 mark on back to back three pointers by Jean Marie Harris.  Barton would battle back to regain the lead 26-24 with a jump shot by Janae Jackson.  Trailing by one with 6:32 left, Porsha Morgan would drain a jumper to put the Fleet up by one. Erskine would finish the half strong taking a 48-39 lead going into the half.  The Fleet shot an amazing 61.8% in the first half, while Barton shot 48.6%.

After a basket from Neci Allen to start the second half and push the Fleet lead to 11, Barton would then catch fire and go on a 16-2 lead to take the lead and never look back.  The Bulldogs shot 51.5% in the second half, while their defense held the Fleet to just 38.7 from the field.   

Four players scored in double digits for the Fleet, led by Harris who had a game high 29 points. Elizabeth Tatum added 14 points to go along with a game high eight rebounds, while Morgan and Allen added 13 and 10 points respectively.

 The Bulldogs also had four players in double digits, with Janetta Robinson’s 24 points leading the way.  Jackson was next with 17points, followed by Faith Hunter with 12 and Jamila Johnson with 11 points.

With the win, Barton improves to 9-2 overall and remains in first place in the conference at 5-0, while Erskine falls to 2-8 and 1-4.
