Limestone shoots past Erskine 71-45

Due West, SC – Limestone shot a sizzling 70% from the field in the second half to defeat the Fleet 71 to 45 in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball action at Belk Arena.  With the loss, the Fleet drop to 2-11 overall and 1-7 in conference while Limestone moves to 13-3 overall and 7-1 in conference.

The first ten minutes of the game featured 4 ties and 4 lead changes with neither team holding more than a three point lead.  In the latter portion of the first half, Erskine twice used runs of 8-0 and 5-0 to gain a seven point lead but each time Limestone countered with their own runs to tie the game.  At halftime, the score was tied at 30 each.

After swapping 3-point baskets to open the second half, Limestone tightened their defense to hold Erskine to just 4 points over the next ten minutes to take a 52 to 37 lead.  For the half, Limestone limited the Fleet to just 15 total points on 5 of 19 shooting.  Offensively, Limestone could not miss, converting 17 of 24, including 6 of 8 from 3-point range.  Limestone won the game 71-45.

Filip Pejovic (Prijepolje, Serbia, Palm Beach Atlantic University) led the Fleet with 12 points and 5 rebounds while sophomore Chris Gore (Myrtle Beach, SC, Myrtle Beach High School) scored 10 points.

Limestone got a game-high 16 points from both Michael Barrett and Danny Friend.  Ryan Bogdan came off the bench to score 15 points for the Saints.

Erskine travels to North Greenville University on Saturday.  Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
