Augusta, GA – The 21st ranked Flying Fleet scored 10 runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to a 16-1 victory over Paine College Tuesday afternoon in non conference baseball action.
Six different Erskine players had multiple hits, and 12 of the teams 23 hits were for extra bases.
Greg Huff (McDonough, GA, Henry County High School),
Chas Anthony (Pickens, SC, Pickens High School), and
Bryan Fogle (Lexington, SC, Lexington High School) each had four hits while Anthony became the first player under Coach Nichols to hit for the cycle.
John Bolding (Pickens, SC, Pickens HS) was 3-5 with two doubles and an RBI while
Zach McCarthy (Spartanburg, SC, Byrnes HS) was 3-5 with two runs driven in.
Brandon Garrett (Woodruff, SC, Woodruff HS) also added a home run,
Casey Winckowski (Oregon, OH, Owens CC) had a triple and
Shawn Glover (Columbia, SC, Richland Northeast High School) had a double in the win.
Anthony had one double on the day to give him 25 on the season and remain first in the NCAA and Fogle drove in four runs to give him 96 for the year and put him just nine away from breaking the NCAA single season record and remain first in the country.
Taylor Wall (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Prep HS) (1-0) picked up his first collegiate win giving up just four hits in five innings and striking out four in five innings of work.
The Fleet returns to action Thursday in the Conference Carolinas tournament as the number two seed where they will play #5 seed Barton at 3:00 pm.
