Charlotte, NC – Queens University ended the Fleet’s postseason run tonight 81 to 58. The Fleet, the #8 seed, only trailed by two points, 26 to 24, at halftime and looked poised to pull their 2nd upset victory in the tournament. The Fleet had beaten #1 seed Barton College on Monday night in the first round of the Conference Carolinas postseason tournament. Unfortunately, Queens University got hot in the second half, shooting an impressive 53% (17 of 32) from the floor, including 4 for 4 from three point range. Up to this point, the Royals had struggled with their outside shot against the Erskine zone defense. Meanwhile, the Fleet had difficulty connecting from long-range, only making 2 of 18 from 3-point range. Queens University also held a huge rebounding advantage, 53 to 30, leading to 17 2nd chance points for the Royals.
Erskine’s Elizabeth Tatum scored a team-high 16 points and Porsha Morgan added 13 points along with 8 assists. Taylor Stewart grabbed a team-high 5 rebounds for the Fleet. The Royals were led by Marissa Hudley’s “double-double” of 27 points and 12 rebounds. Jacquia Winstead and Shakaria Hamlin also earned “double-doubles” with 16 points and 10 rebounds and 10 points and 10 rebounds respectively.
Queens University advances to the Conference Championship game to play #2 Anderson University on Saturday. The Fleet finish the season 12-16.
