Hilton Head, SC – The men’s tennis team returned from their spring break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina, having gone 1-2 on the week. The Fleet played DePauw University the first day and lost 9 to 0. Senior Caleb Barnes forced a third set in his draw but could not pull the win. The next day the Fleet rebounded nicely against Principia College winning 9 to 0. The Fleet won all the matches in straight sets, including four matches by shutouts. The Fleet finished their trip by traveling down to St. Augustine, Florida, to battle Flagler University. The Fleet lost 8 to 1. Freshman James Hoatson picked up the lone point for the Fleet coming from behind to win his match 3-6, 6-1, and 13-11. Fabio Ciarrocchi and Vincent Chauvette lost a close match in the #2 doubles position 9-8 (8-6).
Prior to leaving for Hilton Head, the Fleet played Coker College in Conference Carolinas tennis action. The Fleet whipped the Cobras 8 to 1. The Fleet swept the three doubles matches and won five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
The Fleet ended the week 5-8 overall and 2-3 in Conference Carolinas. The Fleet play Newberry College on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
