Erskine Dusted by Visiting Valkyries 21-1

Due West, SC- Erskine women’s lacrosse fell to the Converse College Valkryies Wednesday evening 21-1.  With the loss, the Fleet slide to 0-10 overall and 0-3 among Conference Carolinas opponents while the Valkryies improve to 2-4 and 1-1.

Converse jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead within the first 9 minutes of play before the Fleet could react.  Erskine head coach Kristy Quigley called a time out to calm her team down and sent them back onto the field regrouped and ready for action.  With a renewed energy, the Fleet were able to put up their sole goal of the game as Alesia Jerrells attacked and found the back of the net.

But Converse quickly reasserted their control as they blazed through the rest of the first half scoring eight more goals taking a 13-1 lead into the break.

The second half was all Converse as they dominated possession.  Converse freshman Lacey Bevilacqua led the Valkryies on the offensive side of the field as she recorded an impressive 6 goals.  Bridget Dullea also did her share as she put up 5 goals of her own while Kayla foster and Jennifer Tropiano added 3 a piece.  As a team, Converse out-shot the fleet 46-8.

Erskine goalkeeper Kaitlyn Overley had her work cut out for her tonight, but she remained composed and was able to collect 18 saves.

Converse’s Molly Donaghue and Ashley Mercuri shared the goalkeeping duties and recorded 2 and 3 saves respectively.

Erskine will head north for spring break to pick up a few extra games over the holiday.  Their first appointment is with Kutztown College in Kutztown, PA on Saturday.  Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
