Edinboro Clips Fleet

Due West, SC – After a thirty minute delay due to a thunderstorm, the Flying Fleet played Edinboro University in women’s lacrosse on a rain-soaked Huggins Field.  The playing conditions did not seem to affect either team early as both teams scored within the first minute of play.  Edinboro got on the board first when Leeanne Stickle took the opening draw the length of the field and slipped a shot past the Erskine goalkeeper, Kaitlyn Overley.  The Flying Fleet quickly responded, scoring in just 14 seconds, as Lisa Kmonicek won the next draw and buried a shot to tie the game at a goal a piece.  Unfortunately, Edinboro quickly scored the next four goals to open a 5 to 1 lead before the Fleet could slow the pace.  The scored two more goals in the opening period but trailed 12 to 3 at halftime.  With some minor offensive and defensive adjustments at halftime, the Fleet limited Edinboro to just six goals while scoring five in the second half.   The Fleet were led by sophomore Lisa Kmonicek who scored 3 goals on 5 shots.  Kaitlyn Overley stopped 10 shots on the day while Edinboro keeper Julie McAvoy earned 7 saves.  Edinboro’s Kristin Sann scored an impressive 6 goals on 7 shots.  The Fleet host Slippery Rock University tomorrow at 11 a.m.
