Due West, SC- Erskine women's basketball suffered their third straight loss at the hands of Belmont Abbey 79-64 Monday evening. With the loss, the Lady Fleet stand at 7-12 overall and 6-9 in conference play while the visiting Crusaders improve to 13-8 and 11-5.
Belmont Abbey took the lead early and never relinquished control. The Crusaders kept the pressure on as they consistently delivered the ball to Shayla Jackson on the post. Jackson led the charge for Belmont Abbey with 12 first half points off 6/7 from the field.
As a team, the Crusaders hit 67.9% from the field during the first twenty minutes of play. On the other end of the court the Fleet were struggling to connect from the field. They only hit 11/36 including 2/12 from behind the arc and found themselves down 27-44 going into the break.
Erskine was able to regroup during the break and hit the court with new found energy. Erskine improved their shooting, but Belmont Abbey did not cool off. The Fleet effort proved to be too little too late and they could not overcome the first half deficit.
Erskine point guard Porsha Morgan was the leading scorer Monday for the Fleet with 16 points. Elizabeth Tatum had a big game on the post with 15 points and 8 rebounds while Mary Ann Langford just fell short of a double-double with 10 points and 9 boards.
Belmont Abbey's sharp shooting put five players in double figures.  Jackson led all scorers with 20 points off 10/11 shooting from the field.  Paula Regalado came off the bench for 17 points of her own off 11/13.  Asha Hardaway and Cortney Naquin each added 13 points and Naquin also pulled down 6 rebounds. Point guard Kelsey Daniel put up 11 points and dished out 4 assists for the Crusaders.
Erskine will return hit the court again Thursday evening as they host Pfeiffer University at 5:30 PM.
