Fleet Fall to Abbey

Belmont, NC- Erskine Lacrosse fell to Conference Carolinas foe Belmont Abbey 23-2 Saturday afternoon.  With the loss, the Fleet slip to 0-4 overall and 0-2 among conference opponents while the Crusaders protected their home field during their season opener.

The Abbey jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead within the first ten minutes of play.  The Crusaders went on to go into the break up 13-0.

Erskine sophomore Lisa Kmonicek was able to break the drought as she put the Fleet on the board with her first goal at the 27:11 mark in the second period.  The Abbey responded with two more goals before Kmonicek struck again.  This time, Kmonicek was assisted by Alesia Jerrells for her second goal of the evening.

But, the Fleet could not muster enough momentum to make a significant dent in Belmont Abbey’s lead.  The Crusaders kept the pressure on, out shooting the Fleet 46-6, and walked away with the easy win.

Erskine goalkeeper Kaitlyn Overley was bombarded by the intense offense of the Crusaders, but she stood strong and recorded 11 saves on the afternoon.

Belmont Abbey was led by senior Laurie Jordan who tallied 5 goals.

Erskine will return to action this Wednesday as they host Gannon College on Huggins Field.  Game time is set for 3:00 PM.
